How to Join
After having looked at this site, you may be interested
in joining the Air Training Corps. The information on this page
should help you to decide whether Air Cadets is for you or not,
but don't just take our word for it - why not come down to the squadron
and see it for yourself?
You are more than welcome to come down for an introduction and tour
of 1187 squadron, just contact us first so we can confirm a suitable
night for you to come.
How old do I have to be to join?
You can join the air cadets between the ages of 13 and 18 and cadets
can stay until they are 20.
What do new cadets do?
When you first join you start as a probationer - a time when you
can decide whether you like the Air cadets or not - but you begin
training straight away. You will learn how to conduct yourself in
uniform, and about the basics of Airmanship, drill and how to handle
our rifles safely, so that when you become a first class cadet about
two to three months later, you are able to get the benefit from
flying and shooting activities that you can now take part in.
Can adults help?
Yes, in fact the Air Cadets currently have an Adult staff recruitment
campaign. Adults of any age can volunteer their services as civilian
instructors helping to put their knowledge and skills, learnt either
through their job or spare time interest, to good use training the
youth of today. To find out more information about this, please
read the details on the Headquarters website and contact us.
Sounds interesting, what do I do now?
If you would like to come along to one of our parade evenings on a Tuesday or Thursday then
please contact us for more information.
