RAF Odiham Visit
It was an early start for 12 cadets from 1187 (Hemel Hempstead) & 795 (Harpenden) squadrons as they boarded the mini bus to make the journey down to RAF Odiham, home of the Chinook, in Hampshire. We were visiting 27 squadron and shown around by SGT Chris ‘Bones’ Pratt. The day consisted of a tour of a Chinoock, lunch in the crew room (very much a hit with the cadets as there was table football), a tour of the armoury & a talk on survival equipment. Wing Marching Team
An usually warm Sunday morning in January saw the first event for the wing marching team. There were a few old faces but quite a lot of new cadets from the Wing (Herts & Bucks) that were ready to take up the challenge; the first march was just 25kms but still a challenge. Flt Lt Fusedale guided us from Hemel Hempstead Squadron HQ through the rolling countryside to Ashridge where we had lunch. We stopped en route at some lovely villages, Frithsden & Nettleden, for a cuppa and snack provided by our support team and all made it back to HQ by 1530. Click here for the photos
AEF at RAF Benson
On an early, cold Saturday 26th September Mrs Huggins took 4 sleepy cadets to RAF Benson. Cpl King, Cdts Price Garnett & Stewart have never flown in a tutor before so it was a mixture of apprehension and excitement when we got there. The runway was a bit misty but once the cadets had completed their safety briefing the sun had cleared away the mist and the day was perfect for flying. The cadets got issued with their flying suits, helmets & gloves and waited their turn for a half hour flight in the RAF Tutor. They all got a chance to fly the pane themselves and do so aerobatics; I’m glad to report that no-one threw up while they were flying Click here for the photos
Sgt Alderson along with Cpl Edes and Cdt Price and Mrs Rose (Civilian Committee Chair) attended the service for VJ Day at St John’s Church, Boxmore, Edes & Price were escorts for the Standard. After the service the cadets chatted to the new Mayor, Councillor Adeleke, Mike Penning MP and RAF Airman Bugler from RAF Halton Click here for photos
